Overview of citizen participation to date

Since 2019, there have always been opportunities to enter into personal dialogue with people interested in the project on selected occasions. We have received over 1,000 ideas, suggestions, and proposals since the project was launched. We have taken many of them on board and incorporated them into our ongoing planning. For example, we owe the project name "Siemensstadt Square" to the people of Berlin as the result of a public vote.

We have documented some of these fruitful meetings - whether live or virtual - and compiled an overview for you. We look forward to further exchanges with you and remain receptive to your ideas and visions for your district of the future!

For the design of the future entrance area of Siemensstadt Square, an open space planning competition was held at the end of 2022 in which six landscape architects' offices participated. The public also brought in ideas. The winning design was chosen at the beginning of 2023.

The entrance area covers more than 20,000 square metres and is located between the future Siemensstadt S-Bahn station, Rohrdamm and the new Siemensstadt Square district.

The ballots finally come into use

Berlin citizens and friends of Siemensstadt were able to participate at the event for an active exchange on the shaping of the new district.

Online exhibition of the building competition

The building construction competition is about the concrete planning of the first module in the new Siemensstadt: How is the historic administration building to be used and what are the best architectural solutions for the adjacent new buildings?

These questions have met with great interest. We received hundreds of responses, especially through our interactive online dialogue.

citizen participation of the urban planning competition 2019

In July 2019 the urban planning competition was launched; the winning design was chosen in January 2020. Citizens were also able to contribute their ideas in a 3-week interactive online dialogue and in a citizens' forum. The planners and the jury received these suggestions as a recommendation paper.
